Pete De Freitas
We are remembering Pete on what would've been his 40th birthday. He was a superb drummer and has been compared to Dave Grohl behind the skins.
Pete died in a motorcycle accident two months before his 28th birthday riding from London to Liverpool. He was riding his Ducati on the A51 near Stafford when someone pulled out in front of him. To find out more about Echo and the Bunnymen, click here.
In 1987 the legendary Ray Manzarek actually performed with the Bunnymen on Bedbugs and Ballyhoo, Ray of course was the keyboard player for the Doors who's frontman Jim Morrison also died at the age of 27.
Here are some of the lyrics from the title track of the acclaimed Bunnymen album Heaven up Here (which Pete played on) - seems fitting.
Heaven up Here (Echo and the Bunnymen)
You've got nothing to fear
It may be hell down there
'Cos it's Heaven up here
I'd have given forever
For a few good years
But too much of a muchness
Is too much you hear?
The hammer on my chest was an abominable pain
The anvil on my belly was an abdominal strain
Heaven up Here (Echo and the Bunnymen)
You've got nothing to fear
It may be hell down there
'Cos it's Heaven up here
I'd have given forever
For a few good years
But too much of a muchness
Is too much you hear?
The hammer on my chest was an abominable pain
The anvil on my belly was an abdominal strain
